Hello, Nils,

I am a student in Budapest Hungary at Semmelweis University. I am looking at my options for my residentship in EU,and I started to looking at Swedish programs and starting to learn Swedish.

I heard I can start working in my 2nd semester of 5th year in Sweden already. Is it true?

I am trying to gather some information but really, I am having a hard time where to even start. I have been to the website [localurl]http://läkarstudent.se/[/localurl], but my swedish is not good enough to start reading the materials yet. Can I look at the page in English?

I just started picking up Swedish on my own and my swedish friends here but I am planning to get my Swedish language tested with exams , but there are a few exams that I could take also, There is TISUS and also SWEDEX, which one is more wildly recognized?

Could you please kindly guide me where to focus to get started and what do I need to prep to go to Sweden?

I am willing to work anywhere to get me started in Sweden,and I am planning to get my residentship in Internal Medicine. Thank you! and Happy Easter!

Medical students can start working as unlicensed (substitute) junior physicians in Sweden after completing either 9 semesters at a Swedish medical degree program or the equivalent (in terms of study content) in another country. This is usually done as summer jobs during the summer break. I guess this is what you have heard about.

I think TISUS is better known. TISUS might also be more appropriate, since you would be working in a profession associated with higher education. TISUS also requires you to have a "very good" grasp of Swedish, so passing the TISUS may be worth more than passing the SWEDEX. I am not an expert on this subject though.

As a European medical graduate, there is no formal language requirement for you but the better you become at Swedish, the more attractive to employers and the more competitive you will be.

As a Hungarian medical graduate, you get a Hungarian medical license by graduating which means that you can then just apply for a Swedish medical license (and then for a residency position). You are not eligible to do the AT internship (since the purpose of it is to get a Swedish medical license) but you may be able to get a simple internship or temporary position as a junior physician, if you want to familiarize yourself with Swedish routines and bureaucracy or demonstrate your ability to do the job in order to get supportive recommendations for residency applications.

Residency positions may be easier to find in the more peripheral areas of Sweden (basically anywhere but the Stockholm, Skåne/Scania and Göteborg/Gothenburg regions).
